Researchers say a downwards trend in HIV diagnoses reflects a boost in prevention tools

Researchers say a downwards trend in HIV diagnoses reflects a boost in prevention tools

Otago University's Aids Epidemiology Group says its surveys show 97 people contracted the virus in 2023.

Group leader, Sue McAllister, says that's half the annual number in 2016 - when cases peaked.

She says people are testing more often, and combining prevention methods to reduce transmission.
