Crews hope to get the power and internet back on today, in communities north of Tolaga Bay

Crews hope to get the power and internet back on today, in communities north of Tolaga Bay

Ex-tropical cyclone Hale has had a devastating impact on utilities, leaving hundreds of homes without power for days.

Chorus crews haven't been able to get to the location of their underwater fibre optic cable, due to the closure of State Highway 35 between Tolaga Bay and Ruatoria.

But Chorus's Steve Pettigrew says they hope to get the network back up and running from midday, if weather conditions allow.

Eftpos, ATMs, data and cellphone services have all been affected.
