Uncertainty around how quake-prone Wellington's Reading Cinema actually is

The owners of the boarded-up building being given a lifeline from the Wellington City Council, have never conducted a building assessment.

The council is buying the land underneath the central city movie theatre for 32 million dollars - for a ratepayer-neutral fix up.

Reading closed in 2019 -- and five years later, the owners are yet to provide the city with proof of its earthquake risk.
