    Another idea is being put forward, to incentivise more people into climate-friendly vehicles


    Latest official data shows EVs account for less than five-percent of new car sales since the Clean Car Discount ended three months ago -- down from a monthly average of about 27-percent of sales last year.

    From today, EV and plug-in hybrid owners will also need to pay Road User Charges.

    Vehicle Import Association Chief Executive Greig Epps says the Government could introduce a tax credit system for people who've owned a clean vehicle for a year.

    He says it means people aren't rewarded straight away, but down the track at tax time.
