Fears job cuts to public service roles, will also harm those that they're working for

Fears job cuts to public service roles, will also harm those that they're working for

The Ministry of Health, is the latest service to propose axing jobs -- with 134 roles on the line, to achieve spending cuts.

The Public Service Association, says that proposal will see the Suicide Prevention Office scrapped, and halve numbers of staff working on the issue.

Council of Trade Unions President Richard Wagstaff, says the work the sector does is important for all New Zealanders.

He says the glib talk of downsizing, and everything will stay open, is nonsense -- and it won't be long until the strain on the sector, becomes more and more evident with these cuts.
