Most Auckland schools are in line of sight - of ads for unhealthy food and drink

Most Auckland schools are in line of sight - of ads for unhealthy food and drink

An Auckland and Waikato University study has revealed junk food ads can be found within half a kilometre.

Researchers who trawled Google Street View images, discovered one school had 95 ads displayed within its zone.

Waikato University's Victoria Egli says children are exposed much more in low-decile schools, than in affluent neighbourhoods.

She says when children see such ads all the time, it normalises consuming unhealthy products and super-sized portions.
