Charlie Puth has been told "not to reveal the gender" of his baby

The 33-year-old singer and his wife Brooke recently revealed they are expecting their first child together, but the Marvin Gaye hitmaker was warned to keep details under wraps

Reflecting on the exciting news on The Tonight Show, he told Jimmy Fallon: "We're expecting a baby in March.

"I'm gonna be a dad... I was told not to reveal the gender."

Charlie did admit he is hoping their baby "likes music", joking it's the one thing he's able to do.

He quipped: "I hope baby likes music, because it's the only thing I'm good at."

The musician revealed he will be taking the lead from his own mother, who made sure he was introducted to "a wide array of music" from a young age.

He recalled: "Well, I feel like I'm gonna do what my mom did for me.

"My mom used to put the headphones, it was the 90s so the headphones were big, just put 'em on her tummy.

"I think I listened to James Taylor, Luther Vandross and I feel like I got a wide array of music.

"So, I'll do the same thing, whether Brooke likes it or not. (laughs)"

Charlie revealed the couple's happy news in the music video for his new single Changes last week, which showed him and Brooke stood on top of a giant red toy piano, and at one point he places his hand on his spouse's stomach.

He captioned the video: "There's been some changes...

"Changes out now. My new album Whatever's Clever! out March 6."

Charlie using his music to share the major life news comes after he refused to play any of his own music at his and Brooke's wedding.

Asked if he chose any of his own songs for the wedding on SiriusXM's The Morning Mash Up, he replied: "I specifically asked for no Charlie Puth music to be played at our wedding. That would embarrass me.

"But I could tell that the band wanted to. They were, because we're all musicians. I got my drink in hand. I'm married. That's the happiest I've ever been.

"And they're all looking at me with their horns, and they're like, 'You want us to, you want us to do a little, a little See You Again on the trumpet?' "
