Public transport campaigners are pushing for better protections - after two seemingly random knife assaults on an East Auckland bus

Public transport campaigners are pushing for better protections - after two seemingly random knife assaults on an East Auckland bus

A man died on Monday night from stab wounds - and another remains in hospital after having surgery.

The 36-year-old alleged offender's due in court today.

Public Transport Users Association National Coordinator Jon Reeves says it seems like people wanting to cause harm, feel they can act with impunity.

He says it's not acceptable - and it's about time the Government, Police and Auckland Transport set up a dedicated public transport policing team.
