Praise for Auckland Transport's moves after two serious attacks on a bus yesterday - one fatal - with a man now in custody

Police arrested a 36-year-old in downtown Auckland this afternoon - on the corner of Fort and Commerce Streets - and he'll appear in court tomorrow.

Local Councillor Josephine Bartley says AT do a lot to make people's journeys safer and have had safety officers patrolling buses today.

She says they have safety screens for drivers, CCTV and a text number for people to report issues - but she also advises people to ring 111 if they feel unsafe.
