St Stephens could be open again this time next year ... 20 years after it was forced to close its doors

The Bombay Maori boys boarding school - also known as Tipene - was closed in 2003 due to financial and personal problems.

But the Old Boys Association has spent the past few years working to reopen the school.

Chairman of the old boys association Joe Harawira says the interest has been overwhelming.

He says so far they've received around 150 registrations of interest, with some to start as soon at 2020.
