Eliza McCartney is still adjusting to a new run up and using longer poles
16 February 2019
The Olympic bronze medallist pole vaulter will compete at the Auckland Athletics Championships at Mount Smart Stadium today.
McCartney has been practicing with a new 18-step run-up.
Coach Jeremy McColl says a longer run-up has the potential for greater results, but also brings new challenges.
He says the wind is much more likely to have an impact, so McCartney needs to learn how to adjust when the wind is a factor.
The women's Pole Vault gets underway at 3.45pm.
