Australia has the upper hand after the first day of the Boxing Day test against New Zealand

Australia has the upper hand after the first day of the Boxing Day test against New Zealand

The hosts are 257 for four, led by an unbeaten 77 to Steve Smith and Marnus Labushagne who made 66.

    Play resumes at 12:30pm.

Kiwi driver Michael Pickens has starred on the feature Boxing Day speedway races at Western Springs in Auckland.

Pickens has won the feature races in both the Sprint Cars and Midgets.

It wasn't such a good night for Nascar drivers Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell, who were both ruled out of the feature races after crashes.

Mikel Arteta's first match as Arsenal manager has ended in a 1-all English Premier League draw at Bournemouth.

Among the morning's other big results, Chelsea's been stunned 2-nil at home by Southampton and Manchester United has powered past Newcastle United 4-1 after going behind by an early goal.

The Cairns Taipans have consolidated fourth spot on the Australian basketball league ladder with a 77-75 road win over Melbourne United.
