The Category Two cyclone has average winds of 100 kilometres per hour with gusts of 140 kilometres close to the centre.
Footage from the island nation shows churning seas and swollen rivers and streams.
Winds are set to damage trees and power lines, and there's a chance of flooding during high tide - which is in five minutes.
