Wind blew the smoke to the upper North Island yesterday, blanketing Auckland and other northern areas in an orange haze which prompted numerous calls from concerned people to 111.
MetService meteorologist Josh Griffin says a south-westerly front moving up the country will help to clear the smoke today.
He says New Zealand may not experience any more smoke until the weekend - as the south-westerly is expected to stick around.
