Houmin Zou and Alexander Woodhouse appeared in the North Shore and Porirua District Courts after being caught working without a license.
Zou was found out after a complaint about his installation of heat pumps, where one was incorrectly installed and had wires exposed.
Woodhouse will pay a 12-hundred-dollar fine after installing lights, power points and a water heater - despite not being registered.
