A second mass rescue at Auckland's Piha beach in as many days
14 January 2020
Three swimmers had to be rescued at the West Auckland surf beach yesterday after being swept off their feet by a large swell, and sucked into a hole south of the flags.
The swimmers were supported briefly by a surfer, until lifeguards reached them with a tube to bring them back to shore.
It follows a rescue of six people from the beach on Sunday.
Another woman also had to be rescued yesterday after she was swept out to sea at North United Piha.
And at Bethells Beach, lifeguards had to perform first aid on a 20-year-old man at Bethells Beach yesterday, after experiencing extreme pain coming out of the surf.
