A net 14% of households in Auckland expect their region's economy to improve over the coming year

These numbers from the Westpac-McDermott Miller Regional Economic Confidence survey for the December quarter.
This is a big turnaround from the previous quarter, where a net 1% of households say they're feeling pessimistic about their prospects.
Westpac chief economist Dominick Stephens says Aucklanders are feeling a lot more optimistic about their region's economic future.
He says this upbeat assessment is likely to reflect an improvement in global economic sentiment and renewed positivity in the region's housing market.
