A Christchurch judge is criticising a police investigation into the theft of thousands of dollars from more than 150 parking meters

Brent Davie faces a year in prison, after breaking into up to 40 parking meters over three-months from January last year - stealing at least 20-thousand dollars.
Judge Kevin Phillips told the Christchurch District Court yesterday, the police case fell well short of proving the 46-year-old is responsible for breaking into a total 178 parking meters.
He says from the evidence provided, Davie is a skilled thief - and police investigated the case very badly.
