A boost to rail in Northland appears to signal Auckland's port will be moving north

The Provincial Growth Fund investment's earmarked 40 million dollars to purchase land along the spur line to Northport and Marsden Point.
Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones says owning that land means they'll be ready to go when when a final decision is made about a future port in Northland.
The cash injection will also see 69.7 million go to lowering tracks through tunnels on the Northland Line, reopening the rail line from Kauri - and building a container terminal at Otiria.
