The 100 hectare fire broke out on Friday morning near Burkes Pass and has destroyed farm buildings, an empty house and hundreds of livestock.
MetService forecaster Aidan Pyselman says only a couple of millimetres of rain is expected to fall in the area today.
He says light scattered rain will last throughout the day, as well as strong northwesterly winds.
He says more rain's expected to arrive in the district on Tuesday.
