Karen Ruddelle says she stabbed Joseph Ngapera twice in the chest - as the result of years of domestic violence.
Ruddelle is charged with murdering the 56-year-old in November of 2018, after an argument in Ruddelle's Manurewa home.
The defence says Ruddelle suffers from battered women's syndrome - and that Ngapera lunged for the knife first.
The court heard yesterday that the defendant called police 16 times during her relationship with Ngapera... because of his violent behaviour.
