Ricardo Menendez March has been working as Auckland Action Against Poverty's coordinator since its beginnings in 2010.
He'll stand in the Maungakiekie seat, which is currently held by National's Denise Lee.
Menendez March says he's bringing a connection between environmental and welfare issues to the table.
He says it's low income families who pay the biggest price for the climate crisis.
