The full bench of the High Court will begin hearing the legal terms of appeal in Canberra today.
Pell will remain in Geelong's Barwon Prison for this week's proceedings.
He was convicted by a jury in 2018 of the rape of one 13-year-old choirboy and sexual assault of another-- but has always maintained his innocence.
Victoria's Court of Appeal upheld the verdict last year, in a 2-1 ruling.
