Countdown says a lack of price specials is down to stock levels, and efficiency

Countdown says a lack of price specials is down to stock levels, and efficiency

Cabinet will today discuss a number of issues relating to supermarkets during the lockdown - including allegations of price gouging.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says a number of allegations have been investigated, but there's no evidence of price gouging.

A Countdown spokesperson says none of its stores have raised any standard shelf prices, but produce and meat prices do fluctuate for various reasons.

Countdown's also removed planned promotional discounts so stocks aren't exacerbated and to avoid staff being tied up re-labelling shelves.

Countdown says specials should be back in stores over the next two weeks, as supplies rebuild and shopping patterns calm.

Countdown and Foodstuffs are also giving staff a 10-percent bonus during the lockdown period.
