Community midwives, who provided care to pregnant, birthing and postnatal women during lockdown, will get a one-off lump sum of two and a half thousand dollars each -- in recognition of the costs they incurred.
It's part of a new almost 100 million dollar Covid-19 support package for health services across the country.
College of Midwives Alison Eddy says the pandemic exacerbated some issues midwives were already facing.
She says there simply isn't enough flex to reimburse extra work or extra costs that midwives incur.
