A babysitter who stabbed his nine-year-old ward to death has been named

A babysitter who stabbed his nine-year-old ward to death has been named

He's 16-year-old Southland teen Daniel Cameron.

Cameron earlier pleaded guilty to stabbing the child - who he'd babysat at least 10 times before - to death in October in his Otautau home.

The child also suffered asphyxiation and head injuries.

After killing the young boy - Cameron left the house and sent friends texts and SnapChats - asking what they'd do if he'd killed someone.

He's being sentenced at the High Court in Invercargill.
