The former world number one, now ranked 134th after two hip surgeries, has beaten world number seven Alexander Zverev in three sets.
Zverev served for the match at 5-4 but was broken by Murray who reeled off three straight games to take the second round win.
Murray says playing without crowds is something he's trying to adjust to.
Second seed Dominic Thiem has been ousted in straight sets by Filip Krajinovic
