A seven-point-one magnitude earthquake struck Canterbury on September 4, 2010, kick-starting thousands of earthquakes.
The Earthquake Commission's Kate Todd says more than 15-hundred claims are still open on its books - from faulty repairs or previously undiscovered earthquake damage.
She says it's impossible to put a date on when the final claim will be settled - as reopened claims are coming in as fast as they close others.
Meanwhile, state-owned insurer Southern Response still has 220 open claims, and other private insurers collectively have more than 530.
