A lack of access in our healthcare system is stopping Maori from receiving proper care

That's the finding in a cultural safety and health equity report by the Medical Council of New Zealand.
The Chairman of the maori doctors association says systemic issues like poorer education and income plays a part.
But Te Ora's David Tipene-Leach says there are also personal cultural issues.
He says people who go to the clinic and have their name mispronounced when its called already feel like they're going to have a bad journey.
