State Highway 63, Arthur's Pass, State Highway 87, State Highway 93, part of State Highway 96, the Milford Sound Road, and many Clutha District roads are closed.
Some flights in and out of Dunedin and Invercargill have been cancelled or delayed.
One flight into Queenstown has also been cancelled, but the airfield is now clear and fully operational.
Heavy snow warnings remain in place in the deep south, and there's a strong wind warning for Hawke's Bay.
