New Zealand First wants to change legislation around murders

In its Safer Kiwi Communities policy package, the party is pledging to introduce a 'degrees of murder' regime.
Offenders would be sentenced for murder in the first or second degree, voluntary manslaughter, or involuntary manslaughter.
Party leader Winston Peters says it would be a dramatic change - with the highest degree having a sentence of life with no parole.
Peters says they'd increase the minimum non-parole period for murder to longer than the current 10 year starting point.
