The Ashburton Work and Income shooter's appeal is being heard in Christchurch today

In 2016, now-54-year-old Russell Tully was jailed for life, with a minimum 27 years non-parole.
He shot dead two Winz workers - 67-year-old Peggy Noble and 55-year-old Susan Cleveland in 2014.
Tully believes he has a connective tissue disease, which affected his state of mind at the time of the shooting and meant he couldn't participate in his trial.
His amicus curiae - or court assistant - at his original trial, James Rapley QC, is being questioned at the Court of Appeal.
He says at one stage, Tully lay under a blanket moaning as the trial continued downstairs.
