A home in Christchurch has been completely destroyed by fire

Emergency services were called to a single-storey flat at Church Corner in Sockburn about 9.30 last night, to find it well involved in flames.

Crews originally believed someone was inside the home, but that was later proven to be false.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Ian Littlejohn says the fire was extinguished just before 2am, and it's not being treated as suspicious.

He says the only injury was a cut hand.
