Flooding has mostly subsided in Wellington, but the capital will continue to see scattered rain and strong south easterlies.
Auckland and Gisborne can expect rain today, easing into showers later.
Rain will continue to batter Hawkes Bay and the Wairarapa overnight.
MetService Meteorologist Andy Best says the rest of the North Island can expect an overcast day.
He says there's a major low pressure system moving over the upper North Island.
