The Police watchdog has found an officer lied in court, in defence of his brother
3 December 2020
In May 2018, the officer's brother was involved in a physical fight with a neighbouring mother and son.
He pleaded guilty to assaulting the son, but denied threatening him, and assaulting his mother.
As a defence witness, the officer gave evidence and completed a written statement.
The judge rejected the evidence, and found the officer clearly attempted to minimise his brother's actions.
IPCA chair Judge Colin Doherty says the officer also breached the Police conflict of interest policy, by not adequately informing his supervisor of his trial involvement.
