Fairmont Wiringi is in Christchurch Hospital after being shot about 3.30am yesterday in Kaiapoi.
Woodend man Mokonuiarangi Chong has pleaded not guilty after being charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of a knife.
Jarrad Singer faces the same charges, but was also shot, and didn't appear in court in person.
The third accused Tove Paranihi will appear in court later today.
