Australia's hard-line approach on deporting Kiwi criminals is being credited for a sharp rise in gang shootings

Gang clashes have flared up in Auckland, at the same time as a double shooting between gang members in Christchurch, and the murder of Head Hunters associate Kane Wayman.
Police Association president Chris Cahill says 501 deportees from Australia are contributing to more dangerous gangs, competition for the drug market and open violence.
He says the shootings boil down to money and power.
Chris Cahill says firearm use existed before, but it's being dramatically increased by 501 involvement.
