Local police say a 49-year-old skier was killed in the Schwyz area when buried by an avalanche, and another person died in the Oberwalden area.
Police say searches for other people possibly buried by the snow were stopped early evening.
Heavy snowfall is usually only seen in the region about once every 20 years.
