Police say the victim was sitting in his silver BMW on Pipitea Street in Thorndon, Tuesday afternoon, when three men approached.
One pulled out a knife, before the trio stole cash and property from the man.
They then fled on foot into the Thorndon New World car park, where they got into a silver Nissan Primera and drove off.
Police have found and seized that car, which is linked to the Nomads.
A 20-year-old is due in court later this month.
Police are continuing to look for the other two and are keen to hear from witnesses.
