Dunedin City Council says results of the latest water samples taken in Waikouaiti and Karitane show extremely low or undetectable levels of lead in the water.
However, some earlier tests shows spikes of up to 40 times the recommended level.
Hundreds of people packed into the hall at Waikouaiti last night to hear from officials on the situation.
A local resident, who wishes to remain anonymous attended the meeting, and says one thing that came out of it was they shouldn't be eating the vegetables in their gardens.
She says there were people there who you could tell the vegetables in their gardens contributed to their livelihoods, and the news was a hard pill to swallow.
