Fire crews were called to the blaze at Apanui School at 2 this morning, and managed to extinguish it.
Eight classrooms, toilets and a temporary staff room were all destroyed.
A spokesperson says a fire investigator is still at the site, along with one fire crew who are ensuring there are no flare ups.
