Police are searching for a man who assaulted and robbed a good samaritan near Queenstown

The victim pulled over on the Eastburn Road layby on the Crown Range Road at around 10:30 last night to help a man who was signalling with a cellphone torch.
The man claimed to have car trouble, but then punched the victim as he turned away.
The attacker stole the victim's backpack and drove away.
The victim was eventually taken to hospital and is awaiting surgery on his broken jaw.
The offender is around 182cm (6 feet) tall with brown skin, in his mid 20s to early 30s with a stocky build and a bushy hairstyle.
Anyone who saw or knows anything is asked to call police on 105.
