Kyra Sedgwick hated the engagement ring Kevin Bacon proposed with

The couple have been happily married for 32 years but the 62-year-old actor has revealed how his secret plans to pop the question to the 'Call Your Mother' star caused a problem because he didn't have anyone to help him pick out a ring

Speaking on 'The Kelly Clarkson' show, he recalled: "I had this feeling that I really, really didn't want anybody else to know [I was going to propose], so I didn't tell my friends, I didn't tell family.

"No one knew, which meant that I had to go out and find this ring all by myself. And I have to tell you, I'm really not a jewellery guy. Like, I just don't get it."

The 'Footloose' actor was pleased with the ring he chose and Kyra, now 55, said yes when he proposed.

He continued: "I am not a jewellery guy, but I found this ring and I thought it was banging. I gave it to her, and she was touched and said 'I do'. "

However, her unhappiness surfaced three months later when the 'City on a Hill' actor found Kyra crying so much, he was convinced she was going to dump him.

He said: "Then three months later we were lying in bed and I woke up and she's crying and I was like 'what's happening?' I wondered if she was breaking up with me.

"She's crying, and she's crying, and she can't even say what's going on," he revealed. "Finally, she goes, 'I don't like the ring!' I talked her off the ledge after that. 'It's all right, it's all right, honey - we'll go back. I don't care - we'll take it back.' "

Kevin insisted Kyra "felt so terrible" about admitting to her unhappiness with the ring, with the host replying that the couple - who have children Travis, 31, and Sosie, 29, together - clearly value honesty.

However, her guest said: "After three months, she got honest. She wasn't honest at the moment."
