The police watchdog says delaying medical treatment during an arrest went against standard procedure

In September 2019, a Manukau man taken in by police went in and out of consciousness the following three hours.
He lay unresponsive in a cell, but police failed to put him in the recovery position, before eventually taking him to hospital.
He had no recollection of the event the next day.
The Independent Police Conduct Authority chair Judge Colin Doherty says the police failed to adequately monitor or give appropriate care.
He says policy states if a person is even just partially responsive, Police should treat it as a medical emergency.
