Contractors are out assessing the damage along the peninsula's eastern coastline, which has been slammed by strong tides and heavy rain.
Dramatic footage was shared online yesterday of waves crashing onto the road at Whitianga's Brophys Beach.
Thames Coromandel Mayor Sandra Goudie says the bad weather is expected to last until Thursday.
She says people that live on the coastline need to be extremely cautious, as they don't know the extent of the damage that's going to be done.
