A coronial inquest has begun into the death of a man crushed between a swing loader trailer and a shipping container in 2016

He was working at a Mount Maunganui Port of Tauranga site leased to Coda Operations Limited Partnership.

The employer was fined and paid more than a hundred thousand dollars compensation to the man's whanau, after a Worksafe investigation and criminal court case.

The plant manufacturer was also fined.

Today at Tauranga District Court Coroner Matthew Bates has apologised for the delay in getting to this point.
