The Sydney Morning Herald reports the 50-22 kick, which is similar to rugby league's 40-20, has been approved for a 12 month trial.
A goal-line dropout will also be used from August 1st.
The initiatives were used in Super Rugby Australia and trans-Tasman, but not the Aotearoa competition.
Retallick, who's spent the last two seasons in Japan, says he'll need to get up to speed.
