Japanese golfer and 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama has tested positive for Covid-19
3 July 2021
Matsuyama has withdrawn from the remainder of this weekend's PGA Tour event in Detroit, after playing the first round alongside six-times major champion Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler.
It leaves his hopes of competing at the Open - the year's fourth and final golf major - up in the air.
A player who tests positive on the PGA Tour is allowed to return to competition 10 days after the onset of symptoms, or sooner if there are no symptoms based on consecutive negative tests.
The Open starts of July 16.
