Israel's Health Ministry says the vaccine's effectiveness in stopping infections has dropped, to 64 per cent.
Six months ago, that number was reported as 96 per cent.
The vaccine is still averting 93 per cent of severe illnesses and hospitalisations, compared to about 99 per cent previously.
Infections have been rising significantly for the last two weeks in Israel, fuelled by the more virulent Delta strain.
