A small Canterbury skifield has finally opened to hundreds of skiers

The Cheeseman Club welcomed about 450 skiers over the weekend, for a delayed start to the season.

Mountain manager Sam Timbrell says it's a month later than a typical year, but a month ahead of last year.

He says spring-like snow conditions and a great turnout provided smiling faces and a positive vibe.
